RI 4-H Club Foundation Thanks Alumni Gathering Honorary Chairman
On October 10th over 200 4-H alumni gathered at Hidden Meadows Farm in West Greenwich for an afternoon of reminiscing, delicious barbeque, games and hayrides. 4-H alums from as far up the coast as Maine and from as far down the coast as Florida, representing the 80 year old generation right through to newborn future 4-H members, turned out in support of continuing the 4-H tradition.

Johnny Tarasevich, Honorary Chairman of the 2009 RI 4-H Alumni & Friends Gathering

One 4-H alumnus who could not be present, Johnny Tarasevich (photo at right), supported the event with a generous donation; he was named Honorary Chairman of the 2009 4-H Alumni Gathering. Johnny Tarasevich, who grew up in South Kingstown, began his 4-H career in 1989 and continued his involvement over the next ten years.  His early projects included raising beef cattle, poultry, and swine to exhibit at the fairs throughout southern New England.  Later on he became involved in teen council which led to his representing Rhode Island on the National Leadership Team at the 4-H Congress in Memphis, TN and to his participating in the National 4-H Conference in Chevy Chase, MD.  As a 4-H Foundation and Eastern States scholarship recipient, he attended and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in finance.  Johnny currently works for BP Energy in Houston, TX as a natural gas trader.

"4-H played an important role in preparing me for my current career by helping me develop the public speaking, organization, and financial management skills I needed to succeed.  I will always be grateful for the experiences I had and for the people I met along the way."

Thanks to Tarasevich's generous donation, the 4-H Foundation will continue to support the quality youth programs which have been a tradition for RI 4-H for many years.
